My name is Fayo A Urgesa and I am a 17 year old college freshman. I was born in Ethiopia and moved to Kenya where I was raised for 14 years. I lived with my single mom as refugees in Kenya interacting  and assimilating with different ethnic groups which led to my polyglot skills.I went to Wonderland academy for 3 years, graduated “pre-unit”  and later attended Glorious Preparatory School,a private school in the capital city of Nairobi,  where I created most of my favourite memories. Some  favourite moments from the school were the annually anticipated  trips to different parts of Kenya such as lake Nakuru and Thompson falls which made me develop my passion for traveling and exploring different places  and their cultures.

Academically, I was very competent in school and despite my financial difficulties, I was never off the top 5 list of my class. I did everything i could to make sure i would put a smile on my mom’s face. I still have my school records from the past years which I keep as part of my motivation and reminder that i have to work hard in order to be successful. I took the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education test which is a standardized test taken at the end of eighth grade and is used as a ticket to high school and became  fourth place in my class, before boarding a plane two week later and moving to Atlanta.
